Hey Guys. I Got The Red ring Of Death On My X Box And Want To Know If Theres An Easier Way To Fix It.
I've Been Hearing Things About The Towel Idea And Also Heard That It Could Overheat Your X Box 360. Can Any One Give Me An Idea On How To Fix My X Box Without Any Disassembly Or Hacking. :help:

the only way I know of fixing it is to send it back to Microsoft. There is a 3 year warranty on it.

i have been fixing xboxs since day 1. If you don't want to send it back then the only choice you have is to open it and do the xclamp fix.
Never ever do the towel trick you will completely kill it.
If you never modded the 360 nor opened it I highly recommend you call Microsoft and they will send you a box to ship it back. It is free of charge.

just send it back, they'll fix it.
sure, it sucks that Xbox RRODs, but they are pretty liberal about fixing it, so, all it really comes down to is a little inconvenience.

They will even send you a shipping label, they no longer send boxes aparently. But still very nice of them to pay for postage, and fix it free of charge.

This is the only thing stopping me from getting a 360. In a few months when their new hardware is released, which is supposed to be RRoD-proof, I'll consider. Good luck finding a fix though =)

Don't feel bad. My PS3 stopped playing blu-rays and PS3 games. Will only play PS2 and DVDs, so essentially it has reverted to a PS2 with an 80gig memory card, lol. Playstation wants 149.00 to fix. Guy locally wants 100. For now I've just been playing the Metal Gear Solid Trilogy and trying to get everything on them, lol.

i always buy stuff like this at Best Buy...Product Exchange warranty. If it's broken, walk in with your broken console, tell em what's up, exchange it for a brand new one. And if you bought it before a price drop you get store credit.
Happened to me once. I exchanged it the next day and used to store credit to buy Halo 3. went home, hooked it up, and tore it up on XBL.

But Doesn't It Wipe Out All The Memory From The 360's Chip If You Send It In? Or Do You Just Take Out your Memory Card And Wait Till It Comes Back Alive And Well. And What Does Everybody ean By The 3 Year Woranty Thing?

your Xbox console is what is broken, not your memory card or your hard drive. call their customer support (or have a parent do so :)), and explain that you have "three red rings". they will take down your info, including the serial # of the Xbox and what not. they will send you a shipping label, postage paid, but you will need to find your own box to send it in. DO NOT SEND YOUR HARDRIVE OR MEMORY CARD. you might not get it back and you will lose your saves then, and your console is broke, not your memory. Microsoft covers the three red rings for up to 3 years, so if you have bought it within then (they will know based of the serial number), they will gladly fix it.
i think the phone number is 1800-4-MY-XBOX.

i wouldn't doubt it, but it probably rarely happens that there is no COINED name for it ^_^
I have the original 60gb released ps3 with backwards compatability still running with no problems
but then again at the same time i have an original xbox 360 release with no problems
I think people need to just dust and take care of thier shit better!
I never had a problem with microsoft or sony, MY big ps2 still works, had it since 2001/2!! my ORIGINAL xbox still works had it since 2002 or 3 or something.
Could it all be related to a ventless space or dirtiness? possibly
I also have a WII with absolutely no problems, but i usually dust and blow out mysystem with air cans so i dont know :)

My name is amberbratt and I endorse these statments :D :D :D :D
But even with dusting... the RROD can't be helped its a mechanical failure due to 'rushed production'
sometimes being first.. isn't always BEST.

lol..fanboys...
I'm not gonna go out of my way and defend Xbox in every single way, but I do prefer it over the PS3.
And the reason you never hear about PS3 problems, is because no one plays it ;) jk jk

not true. your saves are on your hard drive or memory card which you keep.
actually, the other day, a co-worker of mine had to send his in (father of a ten year old). he nor the twelve year old were very knowledgeable about...well...anything. had to tell him the phone #, how to locate the serial #, WHAT A HARD DRIVE IS (seriously)
he got his back yesterday, and it works great and "picked up right where we left off in Lego Star Wars" he said.

Do You Have To Buy The Warenty?
Microsoft INCLUDES a warranty with your purchase of an Xbox 360, and with the highly publicized problems with the "Red Rings of Death", they have extended it to three years after your purchase date.
so, YOU HAVE A WARRANTY ALREADY. even if your console is older, or used, or anything, just call. they will fix it.

they send you back a repaired xbox maybe not 'yours exactly' but if you have the HD (AND TAKE IT OUT) then it shouldn't be a problem like LP said :)

You can find the number on google. They will send you a shipping label, all you have to do is find a box to ship it in.

yes because they extended the warranty for the RRoD. I think because the reported failure rate is over 50%. I was able to send mine in and am waiting for it to get back now.

A lot of these machines break because people don't read the user manuel to see how much clearance the system needs on each side so it doesn't overheat.
