I would love to be able to print out a sheet that I can sketch on before trying my hand at my blank muggs. You would have thought Hasbro would have been kind enough to include one... Or at least have one on their website...

wow, never thought of using a blank. That would actually make customizing a LOT easier, ALSO. Did you draw it up ralph or get it from another site? Cause if you drew it up, you should put a watermark on it somewhere so no other "site" uses it. :p

Let me know if you want me to upload them... I have a few different files I can put in a zip file and upload tonight when I get out of work.
An AI file and a PDF file.
I'm also working on a library of items people can use for drawing their customs in illustrator.

Alrighty here is a link to a template that I made the other week.
The Illustrator File has two layers one for the body and one for the cape.

In the zip folder is a jpeg version, pdf, and AI file that is CS2 compatible.

Here's a suggestion for using the blank forms to create your custom muggs template. What I do is print out the blank sheet and draw out the mugg. You can also use photo editing software to stretch a photo of the figure you want to create onto the blank form and then print it out.
Now that you have your print out, you'll need some plastic template material which you can pick up at a craft store. It's a thin sheet of clear plastic. You can also use document protectors or any other clear piece of plastic that has a good weight, but still some flexibility.
Now, tape the blank form onto the plastic sheet to keep it from moving around. Place it on a good cutting surface, like a cutting board. Take a sharp exacto knife and cut out the template for your figure. Once you are done with that you can tape the template to your figure and use a sharpy to draw the figure onto the mugg. You may have to move the template around a little, because the figure is round and your template is flat, but it sure makes it a lot easier than trying to draw it out freehand.

Thanks for sharing Batey.
RRMuggMaker, thanks for sharing that as well. Do you find any issues with light paint over sharpie markings?
RRMuggMaker
09-09-2008, 10:20 AM
That's a good point about using a sharpy. You have to let the marker dry out completely, because if you start painting with a light color like white, your white will pick up the marker color and turn gray. It's also very hard to get white to cover up black lines or black paint. What I do is use masking tape over the dark lines, so the light color goes right against the tape that is covering the sharpy mark. I cut out the lines on the tape using the exacto knife. It takes a lot of patience. Be sure your using a masking tape that doesn't peel off your paint when you remove it. Give you paint time to dry before you put masking tape on it. At least a good 24 hours if not longer. Your tape should also be somewhat transparent, so you can see the marker through it. I use a light green tape.

So I made a new template in Illustrator for you guys.
Its a template of a bunch of different faces. I'm going to continue to add to it but this is what I have now.
I have also created a Illustrator version of the Muggs Logo. It's probably not the best but its ok and will probably get the job done for most people.

You made those? Wow, they look, and measure up, exactly like the Illustrator template I posted on the net quite a while ago. I could really give a crap because it is just a mighty mugg template, but give credit where its due.

Is it possible to get any of these with female faces? I plan on doing some girls, and that pouty look from Anakin just won't work!

Hey guys, I used Magneto's image to make a PDF template. I was really, REALLY bored at work one day so I threw it together in AutoCAD. My intent was to make one to make a quick 8.5"x11" sheet you can plot out and sketch a couple ideas, or the front and back of a Mugg. There's a little area at the bottom for notes, or a title, or whatever. I set up my CAD drawing to have a front/back version of one with a cape, but I forgot to make a PDF of that. Anyway, this isn't meant to be an improvement on what's already out there (because there's a lot of great stuff around already), just a different version, and mostly because I was bored. :)

Guys,
This stuff is great. Obviously there are a lot of creative people out there. One thing I haven't seen answered is how you guys make the accessories, hats, etc. What are they made out of and how do you form them?
I want to make a DC comics Blue Devil (original costume), but I'd need to make horns and a trident.
Thanks,
Flpennstater
