View Full Version : Paint Lifting
Since may of us are using the same or similar paints, I can not be the only person having this problem. I don't have it all the time, and flesh and browns seem to be most prone, but I have the occasional problem with paint lifting. I put on a good smooth coat, and even let it sit a full day before second coating, and as soon as wet paint touches dry, the dry paint lifts, or appears to re-hydrate and leave white spots. I am not sure what causes it, but I am guessing since its usually round areas that lift, that its probably oil on my fingertips and if I touch an area long enough to leave oil, then the paint lifts. Anyone have any ideas? clues on how to deal with it short of wearing gloves 100% of the time? tips for dealing with it once you hit your third, or even fourth coat, and a circular area lifts?
Thanks

kire offered a simple and easy way to somewhat prevent this....wash your hands often. i had the same problem w/ reds on some of my customs and when i read his post i thought "duh!" so i started washing my hands every 15 minutes or between coats and it has seemed to work. also there is a "rubbery" liquid that you put on your fingers to sort money and the like, not sure where to buy it, but i'm sure it would work too.....or maybe liquid bandages?

I wear nitrate gloves when painting to prevent the oils from my hands from getting on the Mugg.

Hah! Loser! I have a similar suit, but MINE has a built in HD tv. :p
I don't use gloves, nor do I wash my hands every 15 minutes, but I will, occasionally, rub/clean the surface I'm going to paint with a slightly damp paper towel and then dry it. I'll get that "paint lift up" only in very small spots, every once in awhile.

lol Great suit for the bird flu! :tissue:
I'm using ceramcoat (mostly) acryllics. I only get lifting occassionally, and usually in small spots. Ray Lewis's face developed a problem spot about 1/2 the size of the hole in loose leaf paper, no bigger. I don't think I will go with gloves just because they are uncomfortable, but with 3 kids in the house, I am sure that my hands are always picking something up, so I'll try just washing the hands more often, and if all ele fails, keep a pack of baby wipes sitting near my desk. With a 1 y.o. in the house (almost 2) lord knows there are enough of those around here.
