I just wanted to give all the Mighty Muggs fans out there the heads up that Hasbro announced today that a Special Edition Optimus Prime Mighty Mugg will be released exclusively at San Diego Comic Con 2009. Surprisingly it is NOT a Transformers Movie edition Mighty Mugg as was previously rumored.

this contradicts the idea that it was going to be a "movie mugg", but maybe this is INDEED the movie mugg, since it is an SDCC exclusive that is coming out around the time of the movie. regardless, nice find. i am very excited!

I'm pretty torn by this release to say the least. On the one hand I'm def going to get it and excited to go to my first SDCC. On the other hand it's such a copout by Hasbro to basically be rereleasing the exact same Optimus Prime we all just bought but in new a package.

I guess I’m really just annoyed because we’re not getting a new character considering how many great TF characters there are that would look great in Mugg form. I was really hoping, like everyone else, for some Transformers and G.I. Joe Movie Muggs this summer.

Not sure how excited I can get about a repainted Prime. On one hand I am a massive Tf fan, and I should be over the moon, but for the cost it'll take me to get him i'm not so sure. I loved last year's Idol, Gree, Parker and Iron Man. This just doesn't seem as on par in coolness. I'd have preferred a 'battle damaged' one with the matrix revealed or something.

Didn't I read on the comicon website that you can actually buy stuff if you can't go. It's like a package or something...that was last year I saw that. It let you choose exclusives but you had to pay entry fee as well even though you weren't going as well as postage. I could be wrong though.

Last year's HasbroToyShop.com exclusive Mighty Muggs were sold online after SDCC, they just "debuted" at Comic-Con.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the SDCC exclusive Peter Parker Mighty Mugg was ever available online.

Based on what we saw and what we can presume, I would say the try to preorder (on eBay or online stores if they have them) or win it on eBay when its flooded. The more popular characters are definitely going to be sold out with people hoarding them to resell. More people will see what the SDCC Iron Man did so more people are probably going to buy the max they can at the convention.

To be honest I had a SDCC Optimus Prime right next to a normal Optimus Prime and he isn't very special,
Yes I know the box is different but very minor details and yes I know his Metallic but hard to tell unless you are looking at them close-up. Of course for all mighty muggs fan it's still nice to have one in the collection.

got it from an online auction in Hong Kong, I have no idea how the guy got it, i guess from the factory, i tried to tell him, i would buy everything he had, but he only had that one for 19$ u.s and i also had the feeling he had no idea what he was selling or else the price would of been much higher. For him it was just some sort of silly toy. Good for me i guess hehe

I well do so once I find a better way of organizing my Muggs in Hong Kong space is limited. Plus I have one set in Canada and another in HK. WHY? Mainly has to do with availability/Pricing which ever country offers the better deal at the time of purchase. I would say I have more in Canada in delivery boxes, signs poor muggs.
