Hey all.
As customizers, I bet you're like me, and have a bunch of characters you made up in a scetch book or doodled on some scrap paper.:D
Has anybody had any success mugging those unique characters?
Like a true star wars geek, I did my own story line(cause good ol George cant write to save his life) with some interesting character models. I'm gonna mugg them for my own jollies, but will you, my mugg crazed friends enjoy them as much as me? Or will i be mucking up the forum?
What do you think?

He did some work for DC at one time
I actually only pencilled three pages of Steel Annual #1 (I think it was #1), and worked at DC's production department for a few months. Did you ever read Superman Vs Aliens? I corrected issue #1. I also made copies of all of the pages. TERRIFIC inking by Kevin Nowlan. I could barely make corrections without starin' at each page for awhile. LOL>
I did a little bit more for Marvel before that. All in all, not TOO much.

It's funny, I remember a couple of corrections in particular: In one panel it was "Make Superman's chin smaller" and in another it was "Make Alien's teeth longer." Generally, they tried to avoid having the production department make art changes (and you always did it on a piece of white "tape" over the actual art), it was mostly just lettering, and cleanin' up stuff.
Anyway, I've said it a million times, but eventually I'll scan a bunch of stuff I did and put it on my blog. I had all of the comics stuff stored, but I recently found it.

Incidentally, JT, nice design in the first post. Reminds me a bit of Grievous' bodyguards.
I don't know how they do comics anymore, but I assume it's not much different, except for the coloring. Most of the coloring I've seen is done on the computer and while it can look very nice, I also think it takes a LOT out of the actual art. That is, you lose a lot of nice lines. On the other hand, it does make crappy art look better ... so I suppose there are benefits.
Basically, Marvel and DC differed in that a Marvel writer would give you a plot and you could work out how many panels per page you would take to tell the story, and then he would put dialogue according to your artwork. Some plots would be more specific than others and, of course, some writers WOULD actually lay out exactly what they wanted, but generally that was the "Marvel Way." DC writers would have a more detailed plot and would describe what they wanted in each panel (and how many panels). Again, not every DC writer did it this way (naturally, some writers worked for both companies), but that was the general "DC Way."
After I did the pencils, I'd Fed Ex it back, it would go on to the letterer (a lot, if not most, of that is probably done on the computer now, also), then the inker, to production for any corrections and then the colorist. Back then, the colorist would basically just take copies of the inks, color them with Dr. Martin's dyes (or somethin' similar) and then chart which colors were what, for the printer.
All in all, the process of producing one comic usually took about three months, depending on whether or not everyone in the "chain" kept their part going on time ... heh, which, obviously, didn't always happen. Still, it was fun. :D

I don't know either of those guys, but remember I haven't actually been in a comic shop more than a handful of times in the last 13 or so years.
I've glanced at some of the artwork, and seen some nice stuff but, again, it's kinda difficult to tell when you're just glancin' at it 'cause I'm never sure whether or not it's great art and great coloring or crappy art and great coloring. :D
Very few of the guys I went to art school with got into comic book art, and I didn't stay long myself. I don't know that any of my fellow students are still doin' it (which shows you how well I've stayed in contact with them). Probably the most famous people I met and got to know were the Kuberts, Joe, Andy and Adam. Obviously, it was Joe's school and he didn't hang out with us (duh), but I got to know Andy and Adam pretty well. Great guys. Naturally, I didn't keep in touch with them, either.
Pencillers generally do their art on an 11"x17" page (and they shrink it down for publication, obviously). Adam worked a little larger than that. His stuff looked MUCH better larger. REALLY nice. Heh, I always thought Andy's stuff looked better smaller. Unfortunately, since he was basically followin' Jim Lee on X-Men (shows you how long ago this was), and they wanted that "Jim Lee" look, Andy stayed in that style. I always thought his stuff was better when he strayed from it.
I don't ever remember hearing anything about DC and deadlines, and whether or not they were worse or better. Basically, it came down to writers and pencillers, really, and whether or not they were behind. Heh, I don't think that was just limited to DC, LOL.

JT, make the mugg! ive always wanted to see peoples ORIGINAL creations. although so many customizers have put their stamp on how they would mugg a certain character, i am always interested made up characters.
of course, an original character probably wouldnt sell well for obvious reasons, but i encourage to go forth with your idea anyways :D

As far as artists...i like micheal turner. His work on the batman/superman series was great, and i am a fan of Fathom. his character styles are long and lean. The only thing is that all the faces he draws look similar.
