[Rockslide]

Hello there one and all! I am new to the site, but I've been browsing around the customs pages for a while enjoying all the fun work and creations. I have a couple Muggs in my collection now, but I would love to start doing some custom work. The only problem there is a bit of lack of money and/or time to paint them. I still enjoy coming up with the art in concept form and thought I would share! All done in Adobe Illustrator.

Hey thanks guys! I did these start to finish in Adobe Illustrator. It would be awesome if Hasbro had the licenses to some of these, or could work out some deal with Mattel and LJN or whoever owns them now.

Hey Muggers! I couldn't help myself, I had to do a bunch of Street Fighter mock-ups. I've always loved the SF character designs and so I put together a handful of my favorite fighters. I really wish I had the money to buy a buncha blank Muggs, I'd try my hand at actually painting some of these. Till then, I have a ton of fun doing the mock-ups.

Deadpool- I would do a mock-up of your namesake, but there are so many out there already, haha. I don't know that I could add anything to what's already been done.

@Deadpool- I guess I've not seen any Deadpool mocks, but I have seen a handful of different painted Deadpools. I may just put one together for you! haha, we'll have to wait and see. Then I'd have to put together a Peach for Litepink.

@Deadpool- yeah these could be done on actual Muggs but you'd have to have one of the printers that Hasbro uses, I mean, you could always do it by hand but the lines would be difficult to get super crisp unless you did extensive taping and airbrushing.

@toyboy- go for it! I only have a couple requests for anyone who wants to use my designs:

TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO USE MY DESIGNS FOR THEIR CUSTOM MUGG

1. Give credit where credit is due. I know its hard work to paint, but its also hard work to do an awesome design, let's each get credit for our hard work.

2. If you are planning on selling a custom mugg with my design, again, let's be fair. You did the work of painting, I did the work of designing, I would appreciate a cut of the profit :) If this is the case, just send me an email and we'll work something out.

3. Send me pics! I'd love to see how it turns out. I'm really open for anyone to use my art if they follow the two requests above. Thanks!

You should work for Hasbro! Your stuff is amazing! I checked their site for career opportunities... they have some product designer postitions available but are located in MA and RI. :) I really like your Street Fighter mock ups. I wish someone would make that Ryu... so awesome.

Hey thanks again for the comments! I've thought about a Grimlock, I have been considering a Sharkticon too (the head would be cool for a Mugg).

I think I'll do a couple new Star Wars (as mentioned in the other thread) this weekend. I've wanted to do a Gamorrean Guard for a while.

Harry Potter could be fun too, great idea! I've got a ton of ideas, its too bad I don't have a ton of time, haha. I'd like to do some more random Muggs too like a Christopher Walken and a Dwight Schrute.

Wow!!! LOOOOVE Ryu. How long does it take for you to create each mock-up approximately - just curious. Great detail and great great great colors for each character - you matched it up perfectly. Sagat, Ken, He-man, Ryu, Hoth luke, and Lion-o are my faves.

Ryu may have taken 90 minutes, but then I can convert him to Ken and have Ken done in 30 minutes. I have fun doing them. I want to do a ton more, I just haven't had time. i'm really impressed, man. it looks like you actually get the style of building features with shapes of color. it's nice to see someone understand that rather than just using black lines for everything. the only thing i've noticed that you don't follow in the style of muggs is the eyes. all the characters released so far (at least the ones i have) have two shine circles in their eyes, whereas you only give one. you also usually give pupils along with the iris, where chris hicks tends to leave it out (i believe).

hope you take this criticism well. i only feel like i can give it because you are so close to really getting the style. your work is awesome. you're better at illustrator than i am, but i don't do much vector work any more.

your street fighter mock ups are probably my favorite so far. i'd love to see akuma.

zerO- thanks, the eye difference is actually a conscious choice. I kinda hate the double-bubble anime eyes, haha, so I purposely do them more in my style. I also tend to give more detail than the typical mugg. I prefer the more detailed ones like SDCC Iron Man and Gen. Grievous. I almost did an Akuma since I already had the base for him, he's one of my favorites too. I'd like to do him in the next Street Fighter batch with Vega and Chun Li. I also love the look of T. Hawk and some of the Darkstalkers. In the end I just decided to do the basic familiar guys first.

I need to try some female muggs, I've just felt the mugg shape doesn't really work well with female characters (as we've seen in these latest ones- Jean and Baroness, etc.)

I might have some time over Christmas to do some more mock-ups.

I WILL CREATE 5 NEW MOCK-UPS BASED ON THE NEXT 5 SUGGESTIONS!!!

i would say akuma, but i have a feeling you might do that on your own some time.
and i'd love to see beast from the x-men because as far as i know no one has done him yet... but i'm trying to not picture what he would look like as a mugg because i hope he gets made some day and i don't want any preconcieved thoughts on what he should look like.
i guess it would be best to go with some one i know hasbro would never do, but then i feel like i'd probably pick someone only i would want to see.... so i'll stay out of it.

WOW:eek: these are absolutely mind blowing! I can't work with Illustrator or Photoshop unless I have a Wacom Tablet, do you use a Wacom or Cintiq? If you use just a mouse that is way more impressive. But really these are super cool. Also I checked your site and I must say I really love your characters and art style.

wow that's really impressive I just have a laptop with a 8.5x5 Bamboo Fun tablet lol. I love the Cintiqs though they are so cool! I woould use the line tool too for straight lines lol, but still your Muggs are really good

haha, Deadpool! I'm still really hesitant on deadpool. I like doing mock-ups that I haven't seen before. There are way too many Deadpools already out there. I don't know how I could do it differently or improve upon what's already out there. Maybe someday if I get a stray chance.

I still have to do Marilyn from the last fan choice feature. Then I think I'll do George Lucas and Stan Lee.

Wow - that's a GREAT Stan Lee - i dunno how that can be beat. But if anyone has a chance to do it, it's Rock. But ya, that Lee has perfect positioning of all the facial features.

I've been wanting to do a Mad Genius/Visionary series and I finally took the time yesterday and today to put them together. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out! I'll let you guess as to who they are. They are all big inspirations to my life with all that they have accomplished.

Just thought I would bump this thread and its amazing designs to say that I used Rockslide's Jabba design (slightly modified) to make my first custom Mugg (http://www.mightymuggsforum.com/showthread.php?p=146158#post146158). I think it turned out pretty well, although I didn't really do justice to the design.

Rockslide, if you have the time to do any more Jabba-related Mugg designs like Bib Fortuna, Slave Leia, or Oola (his green slavegirl) I will try and make them into actual Muggs.
