I have a small sketchpad with my that I like to doodle in every now and then. I find I put out a mockup at least every other day. I want to post them here to see what you guys have to say and get some feedback and tips on creating. Honestly though, I know some customs can go for some ridiculous prices on Ebay now. Would you think anyone would directly take my mockups, create them, then sell it? I mean I have some mockups that I intend to sell (if I ever get around to making them) but others are somewhat special and I want to be the sole owner to proudly display the one-of-a-kind. Let me know because I really want this community's advice on it.
Thanks!
*PS. I am not putting this up to sound like an arrogant douche. Just think the mockups aren't half bad. Also slightly neurotic. Bad combo.

hmmm, it sucks that you have to worry about it at all, but i know exactly what you mean. i would hate for someone to steal an original idea of yours. i would be mad if someone stole my idea! im sorry im not much help, but it is kinda a sticky situation.
i think you could trust most of the members here, but other people can come on this site as well... i just hope they dont have bad intentions.
id really like to see what you came up with though :)
i just dont want to say not to worry about it, then have someone steal your idea. i would feel horrible!

i have this in my mind. Would you consider "stealing idea" when someone make a very common character? like for example, Mr. A and Mr B are in the same forum, Mr. A first made a movie joker mugg, and Mr. B also made a joker mugg. Is this considered "stealing idea" when this customs is expected to be made because of joker's popularity?

What are the criteria to say that this guy stole my idea?? is it the character, or the idea on how you make that character? :)

It sucks that you have to worry about it, so I woulod suggest not posting mockups. Only the finished piece, that way atleast you finished first and they are now copyng you.
On another note, I don't think it's considered stealing ideas if you decide to make the same character that someone else is doing. It would be considered stealing if you copied something specific that the artist did.

hey guys we dont own this characters ok.. we dont have the license of these characters so i think we dont have the right to claim our mock up superman as your superman even if it just a mock up.. unless you created an original character mock up then probably you have a say...just a thought..

No no no , I think some of you misunderstood me. I am not griping about someone taking my suggestions/ideas for Muggs. Your right deadpool, no one owns them. I just dont want to throw (what I think) is a good idea onto the board looking for suggestions, then hop onto Ebay like a couple of days later to find it on sale for like 69.99 (haha I was being generous).

Either way, thank you for all your long, detailed responses. These are exactly the ones I was looking for. I didnt think this was going to be such a taboo subject but It nice to see how it sits with the community.

nah.. sorry if i sounded like an idiot.. my message just lack an emoticon so please dont take it the wrong way.. anyway thats the dilemma actually. you are good in art and you intend to sell your art on ebay.. chances are your mock ups will be made into an actual custom muggs.. unless you purchase the rights but that would be impossible right.. unless you created your very own character then i guess you have the right..

i have a mock up of michael turner darkseid here.. if i post it in this forum chances are someone will copy it make a custom mugg out of it then sell it on ebay.. and theres nothing i can do.. i cant go after that guy and say "hey that was my mock up, you should give to me part of what you earned from that custom mugg" then he'll get back at me by saying you are not michael turner.. and that would be humiliating..

P05TMAN I actually understand where you are coming from...

I feel I made a really good mockup of a Magneto Mugg... I havent posted it anywhere online because I dont want someone else to steal my mockup... Even though it is Magneto and there are only so many different variations of magneto you can do I am still a little hesitant about posting it... haha actually I might as well just post it since its taking me forever to get mine done haha.

Maybe I will post it tonight ;) I actually hope someone really talented uses it

I also have a lot of ( i think ) great mock-ups. I have decided not to post them until I make the mugg. Then I will include the mockup in the same picture of the finished mugg just so there is some photographic evidence of my design and my execution. I cant wait to share the mockups with every member on this forum but because of the guests (and that sneaky YABEMC) I would just be to hurt if my design was copied.

We all know there are a lot of different ways to design the same character and every design is unique to the artist. We play ideas off of each other and we may use another persons detailed suggestions but putting a whole mock up out there is just asking for another artist (who lacks the moral fiber of the members of this board) to rip it off. Ouch.

Magneto - I cant wait to see your Magneto mugg. I hate when that one really great Idea stays in your head for too long and tortures you because you just cant nail it perfectly in execution. I wish you all of the luck in the world.

@ Mr. Woo

well if you put it that way.. i guess you better keep your mock up for yourself instead of selling it on ebay.. would just hurt if it was made to a custom mugg and it fetched around hundred bucks for example.. and since you cant go after the seller who bought your mock up then it is better to weigh things first if it would be beneficial to you to sell your mock ups and earn money in return but hurts after a while coz of those sneaky bastards.. or to keep it to yourself away from those well sneaky bastards.. its your decision.. thats the dilemma.. but if i were you, continue you mock ups and while you are at it try to make it into a custom muggs and sell it.. win win situation...

Thanks guys for all the kind words. Im borderline on uploading them. Also, for anyone that wants to checkout a mockup, see tha altair (assassin's creed) in the custom news section. Its titled "for classic batman".

Im new to the forum and been following muggs on site and ebay. But going to step-out shadow on this thread here and give my 2cent which isnt worth to much in today economy or society.

The key word here is "MOCKUP". this is a rough draw idea of something done in 2d. Why worry about a rough 2d idea when ur finally product is going to be 3d figure. Be sides I dont know anyone including myself thats finally product actually looks exact and identically to the mock-up.

Ur creating a 3d figure here, the mock-up is nothing. Its the time, technic, and appearance of the finally 3d figure. The mock-up doesnt show anyone how ur planning on making the mugg.

To badly quote Indaina Larry, " The beauty is in the mechanics and the paint. The paint isnt what makes it run dwn the road."
