so, im trying to clean up the mugg sightings section.
to me, the mugg sightings section should be for things like finding new waves at certain store or site.
they should be more topic based, like TARGET or MINNESOTA MUGGS.... just for example.
but im going through the threads and im seeing alot of "look what i just found" and its pictures of indiana jones and other old muggs.
i was going to go through and delete some of those just because they are causing clutter and it makes it harder to sift through. of course, i dont want anyone to be mad if i delete their threads.
so, if you guys could suggest a way for me to organize it, that would be great!
i just dont want to make a decision that will make people upset :)
thanks!

oh also, i dont find much point in posting a thread about mighty muggs for a dollar or whatever. chances are by the time you post it, its going to have bids.
or if you really wanna post it because its a sweet deal on a new wave with buy it now or whatever be sure to put it in the everything ebay section. just tryin to keep things neat and tidy!

I say if it's an older post or thread from more than a month ago and isnt' still an active thread, I say get rid of it. Nobody should get mad at you for deleting an old, inactive thread.

but im curious as to what to do with the ones that were started like a week ago about finding indiana jones muggs. to me, they are not relevant. its old news. i was thinking that i could merge them, but is there even a point?
it sounds rude, but does it matter that someone found hulk yesterday? why bother? hehe.
i would prefer that if someone got a mugg like hulk or some other common mugg, that they just add it to their collection photo... or better yet, put it in the "latest mugg that you got thread".
okay peeps, rule of thumb:
if you get a new mugg, post it in the "latest mugg you got thread". that way they all stay together, and its all organized. instead of having about 500 threads of people saying "whoa, just found punisher and hulk!" hehe
im always cool with the unboxing pics of new waves and stuff though, but that only needs to be posted once.

So put that rule and maybe a few other rules like how to properly title your thread and make it a stickied post in the Sightings board.

I say if they're just talking about common muggs, then delete the thread. That will get rid of so many useless threads, because like you said they should all be in the "latest mugg that you got" thread.:)

i think majority of the section and a few of the ongoing threads are fine...a lot of members (including myself) have actually helped others find muggs they needed (yes, even the mundane muggs that you and i have had for months now. why does it even matter if its old?)...its the ones that dont know what belong in that section and when not to start a new thread thats cluttering that part...
e.g.

http://www.mightymuggsforum.com/showthread.php?t=5140
ban that last spammer...

It shouldn't be split up state by state or anything. But maybe east, west, south, north, something like that. Or set it up so that in order to post a topic in the Sightings board, you must state WHERE THE SIGHTING IS in the title.
Building on what Teeks said (in the mod thread), it would probably be helpful if it was set up like this
Sightings
-North
-South
-East
-West
Then when a new thread is started, in a specific area, the member must put the State he/she lives in (maybe city as well) in the title. It would make searching for sightings in your area 100 billion times easier:) If they don't, a mod can go in and change the title or just delete the post because they didn't bother to read the rules or comply.

I think it would help if Muggs Sightings should be regionally based only threads like a lot of members have mentioned, i.e. dallas/ft. worth sightings, norcal sightings, socal sightings, etc. and also only limited to B&M stores. THe North/South/East/west/midwest etc with sub threads to that specific region is a good idea.
Online sightings could be a separate section, like Virtual or Cyber Sightings, you could merge this with the ebay section.

or in the sightings thread, just make threads for each state.
well not EVERY state but those that want their states represented can say so (maybe ask this question in a thread?)
and then just add it and people can post what they've seen within that STATE only.

Maybe by Mugg? Marvel etc or each wave?

I also think its redundant and somewhat useless to have an "official wave sightings" thread within the specific muggs section. I never have looked at these since you would have to sift through every post just to see if there were any in your area.
Then again i could be missing the point of the thread if it's meant to see how the waves are spreading across the country. Who knows, me no think straight right now.

I think the Mugg sightings thread is mostly just to inform people that they are out there in the wild already. Also, it kind of gives us a clue as to where they show up first. I always thought it was the west coast but this hasn't always been true..

flash makes a good point, as a mugg sighting should be a "keep a look out" type of thing, not a "check out what i got" sort of deal. if you see something thats a part of a wave revision or a new wave and can give us a heads up as to which store to keep an eye on, thats very helpful. i think we need to think to ourselves, are we bragging when we post a muggs sighting, or are we helping. if you are proud of your find, then post in in the latest mugg you got thread in muggs in general. if you see a bunch a muggs (or for that matter, empty shelves), thats cool to post it as a sighting, and others can go to that store or avoid it. but often it seems like a sighting thread is just a bragging thing, and often its bragging about something that was a big deal like two months ago. another key to is to post in an already existing thread, which some people do already, with like the "bay area" thread, and that should be applauded. just some more thoughts.

sticky by each region would probably be easier

I'd point out that people can certainly create a SOCIAL GROUP by State and post Specific sightings there. They can post that there is a GROUP to join, like the TEXAS Group (which exists, but has only three posts ... ahem) or the CALIFORNIA Group or NEW YORK Group. You get the idea. That would keep the stuff off the regular forums alltogether, and clear up a LOT of clutter.

yep, thats a really good idea. especially when people post about a certain mugg at a particular target.

Interesting. I think that's a great and smart idea. I really never pay attention to the Sightings threads. Its all messy there and people just post whatever they find or what they wanna show off, lol, no offense. I usually just post in the "Latest Mugg You Got" thread because its more simple. I was also thinking about maybe State and outside (such as UK) sightings threads, and people in those places would post their sightings in those threads. Most of the other forums I post at do it like that, instead of just random finds being posted all the time. :)

idk, personally, i think that area is fine (besides the aforementioned members that dont know the proper use or what theyre doing)...this forum isnt that big and doesnt have that many threads...a few extra threads about a finding that will most likely help another member out is well worth the chance of more "clutter", imo...plus, people have been using that area very efficiently up until the newbs came in and started going trigger happy...yes, ive only been a member here since jan, but its not rocket science figuring out the dynamics of a forum...just advise members to use and post more wisely...and why should mugg sighting s be limited to B&M stores? a sighting is a sighting is a sighting...
on a side note, a few other vbulletin forums i have been on have state abbreviations in their for sale section to easily differentiate regions...this is the icon that goes next to the thread title (e.g. thumbs up, thumbs down, question mark, etc.)...could this system be implemented with our vbulletin?
