Did you prime it or is that a blank? The only problem I can foresee is painting red acrylic can be a major pain in the a$$. If you spray paint the whole thing red then sketch it out I think your reds will be much crisper and cleaner. Other than that, I use acrylic paints, some people use game workshop paints. Its up to you really, theres no wrong answer. I'd check the tips and tricks section, I know theres several threads about this already.

Yea Cover the body in light coats of red. Several times, Untill you get a nice solid red.
If I were you I would make the body SOLID RED. THEN, Worry about the yellow bolts. Its way easier to work in layers than it is to but up to a color or leave a thin blank line like that.

Flash is a good first custom, it's easy, expet for red, I learned the hard way with my master chief
Like everyone is saying spray paint or airbrush red, then worry about the face and lightening bolts

so, another quick question, i'm going to do my first custom on a blank, so is it necessary for me to put it in the boiling water before i start working on it, i'm kinda confused, i'm new at this thing.

I think you may be thinking about the scrubbing step, which I believe is only necessary if the pre-painted mugg has a sheen on it.
