Haven't posted in three days due to time constrains, but I've still checked in and made sure things are running smoothly. I realize that there will be times when I'm needed and not around, and that no forum can be run my one man.
Because of that, I'm going to PM a few people tonight to see if they're interested in being mods.
If you'd like to suggest someone for consideration (even yourself), that please feel free t PM me, or post it publicly here.

Well, its not official or anything but I can look after the feedback thread since its not so crazy (yet). Im sure you guys would want me to Mod more than one thread though but I feel even though Im new, I probably hit my little MM bookmark button to here at least once or twice a day. To cut to the chase, I would be up for it.
*Also, I third Ninja Mugg and Vulcan. They are on as much if not more than me so might as well put them to work :p

aren't Mods not allowed to win contests on the site? ;)
but seriously, isnt that like a rule on any forum?
Ralph

That may be a rule in the future, but since I'm chosing mods three days prior to the end of the contest that ran for a month, it's not an issue this time.

I hate to bump such an old topic but I feel as if maybe it's time to get a new mod or two. As the forum gets bigger, it gets a little harder to regulate and control what's posted or what has multiple topics and all that jazz. While I think the current mods do really well at regulating things, there's only 3 people of power currently and hundreds of new posts are made a day. The Buy/Sell/Trade board is a good example of a board that may need better regulation.
I don't mean to poke my head into site business that isn't really my concern but I felt it should be brought up. I'm sure the mods have discussed it before. If I'm in the wrong here, tell me. I will not take offense. Just making a suggestion.

I totally agree with Teeks. The mods have been doing an awesome job, but having more members and losing a mod is definitely starting to show.
There should be a mod for every section. (Maybe one person can do TF, Joes, and Indy). By doing this, the flow of new pointless threads can be controlled.
I cringe every time I visit the SW section because every time I go there is a new thread like "OMG I love teh Vaderz LAWL" and then people ACTUALLY RESPOND to this garbage. Only mods should be able to open new threads in the SW, Marvel, etc. sections.

I disagree with your last point. Everyone should be able to make new threads not just Mods, that's the point of an open forum.
Anyway, I agree with everyone else. We need more mods, at least one more.

People can still discuss things in a open forum with my idea. If only mods are able to make new threads it will be easier to find the right discussion. There are always pointless threads that people start because they are either retarded or too lazy to find the thread that was already started.

Then it becomes the Mods responsibility to move and merge the topics to the right area. Or even lock topics that are duplicates. This forum would be super lame if I couldn't make topics.
This forum is already lame because people can't find the discussion they are looking for. Look at these threads from the SW section...
Go to first new post Where's R2?
Would you recommend...
with all the odd choices made to make Muggs from star wars charecters...
is this for real?
Doubles? Good or Bad?
Biggs....Plastic or Vinyl head?
disappointed in new wave?
Did u no that i like wookiees?
star wars Wave 9
pictures of clone army?
Emperor Palpatine or Darth Sidius?
Tired of Trooper Muggs?
New exclusive muggs?
Look how many pointless or repeat threads there are. How can anyone be expected to find the right discussion when every 2 days there is a pile of crap threads they have to wade through. Maybe 20% of the threads above should exist, all the others are just fluff. Here is what the SW section should look like:
SW Mighty Muggs Wave 1 (and all others in separate threads)
SW Rumor Thread
SW Mighty Muggs Questions Thread
SW General Discussion
SW Variant Thread
Etc.
Everything should be very orderly so people can find the discussion they are looking for.

It would probably just make things easier to have "Official" Wave threads stickied. That way we wouldn't have four or five posts about the same "sightings" or "news."
The rest will eventually fall by the wayside.
There is a ton of stuff to do for only two Mods and 4,300+ members.
Discouraging people from posting what they want will eventually discourage people from posting altogether.
But see you HAD to start that thread because there is no right place for your question. I don't blame you.
And I know this would take a lot of work for the mods, which is why there should be one mod per section. Heck I'll even volunteer to do the SW section. If people want a new thread started, all they need to do is PM a mod and it will be up within minutes/hours. If the new thread has no purpose, he/she will get a response saying "Hey, your question is good but you don't need to start a thread about it. Try here: Link"
Easy as that.
Also remember this would only be for the SW, Marvel, etc. sections not the whole site.

unfortunatly forums dont work that way. you cant just throw every single question into a general topic or things will never get answered.
What really needs to happen:
1. SEARCH before you post
2. If you going to post something that is meaningless (EX: "Did u no that i like wookiees?") Please do so in the off topic section
3. STAY ON TOPIC when posting in threads.
4. SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST
5. Dont talk about Fight club.
those would make the forum run more smoothly...but...its going to take the membesr to make it a better place.

Absolutely correct. I think that the we need to have more stickies in each forum, or rearrange and reorganize the entire forum.

I agree with you fully Ninja but people simply won't do that. It is too much work for them so they just start a new topic. The examples I listed were just a select few of course there would be more.
As for people being discouraged from posting, what a load of crap! They can still post all they want just not NEW THREADS THAT TAKE UP SPACE!!

I agree with Green Eggs and Death. It makes way more sense to sticky the "official" threads than get rid of the option of posting new threads.
Green Eggs and Death
02-17-2009, 12:23 PM
How about:
6. THINK about your topic's TITLE. Half the problem with finding something, even using the Search option, is that Topic titles oftentimes are very vague or not nearly descriptive enough. Topics like "OMG" which contain news about new Muggs, or "Muggs on Sale!" when there is already a "Muggs on sale at Target (example)" topic.
Currently there is a new "Urban Outfitters Mugg Sale" (not exact) post, when we already have one. However, the FIRST one (posted days ago) didn't mention Urban Outfitters in the title, it is something along the lines of "Muggs Really Cheap!" ... It's a very helpful topic, but It would help if titles like that would go the way of the Dodo.
What are we going to do, sticky 15 threads? Then it won't matter than people can posts new threads because they will start so far down the page to begin with.

They wouldn't have to sticky 15 threads. They could combine the ones that are talking about the same thing- it's been done before.
Man I agree there are a whole lot of useless threads. Ones that drive me insane are...
Incomplete thread titles like:
"Don't you hate it when.........."
"Guess what??!"
"Look what I just bought!!"
"Cheap" starting prices on eBay
Links to thread starter's eBay auction
Bragging/mocking threads
That one dude kept posting pics of how stocked his TRU was of Puns and Jigsaw. And his thread was something like "Still can't find Punisher or Jigsaw?"
We just got to bump the maturity level up a bit
Ninja Mugg
02-17-2009, 12:31 PM
Green eggs and Death are also both correct.
1. We cant sticky everything, or you would never see new threads.
2. I cant stand it when I see poorly labeled titles. When I change them I get a question in pm like "Why did you change my title"
Its obvious from everything that everyone posted there is no simple solution. We just all need to keep threads clean as possible, and in the right place. Searching is always a huge compliant on everyboard I have ever been on. I am surprised we dont have a "Search Nazi" who yells at every noob to use the search function....seemes to be one on every board.

Where do you get that from? 15? You'd have two or three in each category, tops. A Wave announcement Sticky or two (even for two or three Waves at once you'd only have ... two or three stickies) and a Wave Sighting sticky (a general one, as regional sighting threads wouldn't have to be stickied 'cause THAT would be too many).

Personally, I thought you were just using hyperbole. I doubt there would be 15 really important subjects in each category. Yes, that would be too much. However, even Wave Stickied threads could be "UN" stickied after they've outlived their usefulness.

I dunno, while I agree with everything Death has to say in this topic, there are a lot of other topics where he's been involved in arguments. While they're not all his fault, seems to be a recurring theme on this here board. Another thing mods would need to deal with.
As far as regulating specific sections, I think the only board that would neccessary on would be the Buy/Sell/Trade board since it seems to be the biggest board as well as the one to have the most posts violating certain rules. 12OunceEpilogue would be a good choice to mod that section since he seems to have a handle on keeping up with the rules and informing people of what they're doing wrong.
That is to say, if any new mods are chosen at all.

If you "monitor" my arguments, they mainly consist of two themes:

I've been thinking about some possibilities for reorganizing, I'll post back here when I finish.
and for new mods, i think 3 more should be added. we need atleast 1 mod for each of the 5 different forums. seeing how this forum keeps growing, the more mods the better, to keep it clean and going.
each sub forum should have its own set of rules stickyed also.

The sightings board could use some regional organization. Right now, because of the lack of stating which area the sighting is in in the title, you can open a topic title "WAVE 6!" and it ends up being sighted in Wyoming while you live in California. It shouldn't be split up state by state or anything. But maybe east, west, south, north, something like that. Or set it up so that in order to post a topic in the Sightings board, you must state WHERE THE SIGHTING IS in the title.
And I still believe the Buy/Sell/Trade board should be split into seperate Buy, Sell, and Trade sections.
Maybe each Mugg section could use sections for upcoming waves and past waves? IDK. Just throwing out ideas.

The custom tips and tricks section could use some more organization. It would be helpful if there were more tutorials stickied, like Kirelestat's, so you would not have to go searching for them.
Or maybe pick certain threads that involve a repeatedly asked question, and sticky the ones with useful information. For example, any of the airbrush, primer, or paint type threads.
These are just things that I noticed when I did my first custom, and I think would be beneficial to others who are trying to do their own custom.

I'll start from the top of the homepage and work down.
Mighty Muggs Forum
---New and Suggestions
------Looks fine to me, no suggestions.
---Introductions
------Again looks fine to me, no suggestions.
---Mugg Sightings
------Needs to be organized. Separated into regions, maybe stickies or sub-forums for each region. I would go with sub-forums personally.
Mighty Muggs Lineup
---Star Wars Mighty Muggs
------Looks fine, no suggestions.
---Marvel Mighty Muggs
------Looks fine no suggestions.
---GI Joe Mighty Muggs
------Should be deleted and moved into a new forum for dead lines.
---Transformers Mighty Muggs
------Should be deleted and moved into a new forum for dead lines.
---Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs
------Should be deleted and moved into a new forum for dead lines.
Muggs In General
------Looks fine, no suggestions.
Might Muggs Customs(This spelling error needs to be fixed.)
---Custom News
------Rename it a new sub-forum titled "Custom Muggs etc." We don't really need updates from custommightymuggs.net.
---Custom Tips & Tricks
------Combine with Art & Mockups into new forum titled "Custom Muggs etc."
---Art & Mockups
------Combine with Tips & Tricks into new forum titled "Custom Muggs etc.
---Custom Showcase
------Fine the way it is. Only two sub-forums in this area this and "Custom Muggs etc." Custom showcase is the only place to post your creations, or someone elses with proper credit. Needs to be monitored to reduce redundant threads.
Mighty Muggs Marketplace
---Buy, Sell & Trade
------Fine, no suggestions.
---Feedback
------Fine, no suggestions.
---Everything eBay
------Fine, no suggestions.
Everything Else
---Too much to list all of them. I would keep the Off Topic forum, and move the Sports, Video games, and TV & Movies sub-forums into it. I would combine Action Figures and Other Collectibles into the Other Collectibles forum.
Overall I think it would simplify things. Of course this would only work if it was heavily moderated.

I would keep the Custom Tips and Tricks and Art & Mockups seperate only because I just think that there are tons more Art & Mockup posts and some Custom Tips and Tricks posts that might have some good stuff in them would get lost quickly. MOST of the good tips and tricks might be stickied, but probably not all of them will be caught.
Other than that, I like the consolidation ideas.
I think a "Rumors/Speculation" section should be added. Either globally or in each Mugg category

i agree. some organization is needed in the mugg sightings sections. or perhaps they just need proper titles. thats easy, i can work on that soon.
i think i can make it a lot easier to navigate.

My main issue is with people posting new threads that belong somewhere else. We all know that entails posting something that already has its own thread, or the "LAWLZ, look what I found at K-Martzor!" when it should go in the sightings threads. I don't even think it should be a matter of combining and moving those into threads. If it was me...
1) Post a sticky stating that redundant threads or things that should go elsewhere will be deleted. Anytime someone gets their thread deleted and they want to know why they need to pm a mod to find out why, not bitch on the board about it and clog things up with more threads whining.
2) If they post a thread whining about their thread being deleted, issue a warning and pm it. Delete that thread.
3) If they do it again, 3 day vacation from the board.
4) Increasing vacations up to banning if they can not follow the rules.
Mods shouldn't have to break their backs trying to move posts to keep people happy. The rules are posted, they agree to them by signing up. If they can't follow them, their stuff gets deleted and they are reprimanded. Only way to keep people from doing this crap. Just would be my policy.

Furthermore, the sightings mess would be handled fairly well if there were separate threads for each of the major vendors for starters. Individual threads for Walmart, Target, K-Mart, TRU, Hasbrotoyshop, and any other MAJOR vendor people think of, I reckon. Keep the sightings in those threads if they correspond or delete. People should have to state where they found the items. That way it is a two-pronged approach that cleans things up to a certain while also helping people know where Muggs are being found by certain store. Keep the sightings out of the sub-forums for each line, only in the sightings. The major vendors, and if people find others, so be it. EBay findings in the ebay section. Violations are deleted, plain and simple.

or in the sightings thread, just make threads for each state.
well not EVERY state but those that want their states represented can say so (maybe ask this question in a thread?)
and then just add it and people can post what they've seen within that STATE only.

Ban political discussion (make it a rule). I'm tired of talkin' it and I'm sure people are tired of talkin' it with me. As long as someone brings somethin' up, however, I will participate in it. Best to keep it off these boards alltogether. The best forums I've seen have NONE of that allowed. As long as we all share a "love" for the main subject of these forums, Mighty Muggs, that's all that should count. :D
The only thing that we need to be "separated" by are heated discussions of MORE Spidey Mighty Muggs vs NO MORE Spidey Mighty Muggs. ;)

I don't think banning political discussion is necessary. I'm a member on a couple of forums where it's banned and it's no fun at all. I think as long as it only takes place in the off topic forum then it's fine. If you don't want to participate then don't enter the threads that are about politics. I'm all about leaving the forums to the forum members. Less moderator involvement the better.
Call me libertarian if you will.

I, on the other hand, have seen forums completely dissolve because of it (not to mention religious discussion). What on EARTH would be the point of having it here, on a Mugg discussion forum anyway, "Off Topic" or not? Is there someone that is going to Learn something from it? Jeez, I hope they would know that there are a million other places/forums they could go for that kind of info and/or discussion.
Heck, most of those topics are just started by people that just want to argue. What the heck kind of a person just wants to argue? Not someone I want to hang out with, that's for sure.
Anyway, keep it allowed if everyone wants. IF a "political" topic IS CLEARLY LABELED as such, I'll know to avoid it. I hope to heck though, for anyone here that has no real opinions on any issues, they don't take the talk here as gospel, but rather a starting point or something to peak their interest, so they can go somewhere else and get more information.

We might as well ban all off topic discussions then since they have nothing to do with Muggs. If people want to talk about it then I say why not let them.
I agree though, the topic should be clearly labeled. And political/religious discussions shouldn't be started in threads about a different topic. And if they are, and they want to continue, then the title should be changed to reflect that.

It wouldn't be too difficult. We would need more moderators, which I think we need anyway, and people could report posts to moderators that were violating the rules. Also members could just follow the rules.

Politics/religion are generally pissing matches and intellectual masturbation on forums, but if they have their own sub-forum I reckon they are alright. I have my bachelor's of science in political science and finance. I'm currently working on my masters in Public Health, which deals with a lot of policy and finance still. It is POSSIBLE to talk about politics and be reasonable. That being said, I've only bothered to participate in one such discussion on here and it was the day Obama was elected. Unsurprisingly, definitely had some people acting like children in that one. I don't side with one party or the other and I'm level-headed with some expertise in the field. If you want to have a sub-forum I'll pop my head in every once in a while.

No, that's a lousy comparison. Do you really believe that a Lost vs The Office topic (as an example) would be the same? Come on.
In all of my years, I don't know that I've seen the same acrimony comin' out of other subjects as it does out of discussion of religion and politics ... except maybe certain Sport teams vs others, naturally.
Regardless, it's just something I brought up. We don't need to focus on it as it's not our choice anyway.
