Heya, new here. Just ordered some blanks, as I was inspired to make a few customs. Here's my first mock up - Batty is next, then Pris, etc etc. It may change a little before I actually apply paint to vinyl - so if the more seasoned among you have any suggestions to make this looks as Mighty as possible, fire away!

Heh, I tried the same, but our vinyl cutter here at work sucks so much it just wouldn't make most of the small cuts needed. ;)

Yeah, I anticipate some (let's put this nicely) "trial and error"... in reality, I'll probably just scream and stamp my feet!

Maybe an Alps decal would be better.... I like to "cheat" with these kinds of things when possible!!!

Well, our vinyl cutter is many moons old, and I seriously doubt that anyone has changed the cutting tip ... ever. That has a lot to do with it's suckiness.

I've thought about purchasing some frisket, but I've already invested too much into this "custom thing" and so far have little to nothing to show for it. Now, I don't have the time that some of these guys have (I believe they live and breathe painting these dang things :D ), so the results so far are really tempered by that.

Incidentally, I forgot to mention that it's a nice mock-up. Rick Deckard sounds familiar, but I cannot quite place him. Minority Report maybe?

Great mock-up! I've been thinking the same thing as you guys, unfortunately I don't have access to a good vinyl cutter either. And I definitely know what you're talking about in not having time to paint like some of these other guys. They must be younger without wife and kids. I have only had time to paint one Mugg, though I'd love to do a ton.

I talked with the guy who made the awesome Usagi Yojimbo mugg and he uses contact paper cut with an exacto knife and then airbrushes the "stencils." The effect is awesome. I'm going to try that someday when I get some time.

Contact paper. Hmmm. I tried some clear label paper (bought for work but our printer doesn't like it), but it's permanent and has way too much tackiness. Too much even to take some of it "off" by repeatedly touching it. I think I'm just going to try pieces of vinyl (white) cut with an exacto knife over a pattern, backlit from my light box.
