ive been thinking lately, the muggs lineup was always very fast since it started in terms of releasing one wave after another...now, these exclusives (tru, ee, target, px) are getting so much more expensive and harder to acquire; not to mention the OVERALL cost of this hobby...i also find it harder to find time to scour the stores...i have up to date, 72 muggs; thats at least $750-60 (some exclusives that go for more than retail and tax)...thats a lot of money!!! ive always been down for this hobby since the lineup dropped late 07, but when are you guys gonna call it quits? as a completist, this hobby is getting more and more frustrating to keep up, lol...anyone get the same hopeless and bleak feelings? :o
I already gave up on the star wars line because it just seems like that line comes out with more and alot faster. Plus I am a huge marvel fan and giving up on star wars gave me more money for more marvel muggs.

I feel your pain. I am continuing to buy the Star Wars Muggs line mainly because I am such a completionist with these, well that and the fact that I love Star Wars, but it is such an addiction and an expensive one at that.
I'm now getting into customs. I bought the Rancor one and know I've already spent $55 in supplies for a Custom Mugg that I'm going to be working on.

i'm cutting back on muggs too.
its hard for me because i have two boys that are into them too. i used to buy them every mugg... but now they only get the ones they like... mostly marvel...
i've also cut back on customs quite a bit. i am no longer going to be spending on customs like i used to. too many bad experiences and i am just running out of room.

Heck, man, my boys and I just started! :D My boys have no idea how many Muggs are sittin' here in my studio, just waiting for special occasions. If I don't get another Mugg for months (heh, and who believe's THAT?), I'm set for at least a year. ;)

Well, when you have no job or way of much exposable income, it's a pretty expensive hobby. I have no plans of giving up right away and I'm currently looking for a job to pay for them *Not just them, obviously. I've got a girlfriend and car to take care of too.* But I'm moving slowly but surely. I've yet to decide if I'm going to be a completest or just get the ones I really want or are pretty rare. But I won't slow down until Muggs slow down. That or I lose interest. That happens sometimes. I call it "Pokemon Carditis"

I only collect the SW and Marvel lines, which is enough. I have 3 Indy Muggs, but only cause they were cheap. I don't need to worry about Transformers or Joes so that cuts it in half right there.

This is exactly what I've been on to recently. This whole Target Exclusive wave crept up on us, and turned some people off. I don't have the exact count, but there's nearly 90 different Muggs out there. Around here, they started popping up on shelves about November 2007. That was 15 months ago, and an average of 6 Muggs a month. At $12 a pop (gross under estimate if you bought ebay or exclusives), it comes to $72 a month, give or take. That's just to keep up, much less be an addict.
They'll flood the market, people won't be able to keep up, they'll lose interest, and the whole line goes flatline. It's like a video game that's just too damn hard. Eventually, you say, "screw it" and quit playing.
That's why I wish they would've waited on the Joes and Transformers lines. And as much as I liked the Indy line, I got to say, when I heard they were cancelled, it gave me some breathing room. The Star Wars and Marvel Universes are so huge, concentrate on them.
One other statement of doom....when the Muggs came out, they were $9.99. In less than a year they went to $11.99. I bet when Target comes off this $8.99 price cut, they'll go to $12.99. Then they take the same Rex Mugg, slap a Taget Only sticker on it, and make an exclusive out of it.
Jane, stop this crazy thing! Jane!!

I've never seen them at more than $10.99, so that's probably Regional (not to mention store to store), but, yes, it would still be expensive tryin' to keep up. I'm like many in that I'll just get the ones that interest my boys and I. Even then, I will pick and choose.
The Indy line was probably doomed from the start. No matter the hype from last year's Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones merchandise has never been a hot item. Let's face it, it's just not "fantastic" enough.
It would've been nice had they waited until the new Transformers movie to hit the market with those Muggs, but they're ridin' the wave of both the hype from that film, the success of the last film and the Animated series. I cannot really blame them for the timing on that.
The G.I. Joe Muggs are, of course, Hasbro's "baby," and it was only a matter of time before those came out. As with the Transformers, they are counting on pre-movie Buzz and long-time G.I. Joe fans to generate sales on those.
If you're going to be a completist, you're going to "suffer." Pick and choose, man, pick and choose. ;)

yeah, even with a steady flow of income i find it very hard to keep up...with this economy, my hobby/toy fund has dwindled a bit...at the rate these releases are dropping, i would have no choice but to be more of a specified collector; most likely star wars and marvel...like a few mentioned, even though it was sad for me, it was sort of a relief when the indy line was dropped...i guess it sucks that i was raised on and too crazy about all four monikers (SW, marvel, GI, transformers) to pick and choose...good to know that some other members share my pain, lol...i havent reached that point yet though, gotta keep on truckin'!

I'll call it quits when there's NOOOO more good worthy Muggs out. Or when I completely run out of room. Which I don't think will be for a while. But when it comes to my whole toy collecting, a VERRYYYY long time.

ahhh...mighty muggs. i too have been in other phases. for me at least, what i love about muggs is that they are great to display boxed (they "stack" nicely), and they are soooooo cute i love everyone of them! as of right now, i am up to date so the cost isnt as menacing, but new ones are popping up so quickly. its like marvel wave 5 is so "old" now, you know!? the target ones...joes...punisher, etc.
in my case, ive gone this far, i cant stop now! what makes muggs a great collectable is that they are all ONE thing, no vehichles, playsets w/ exclusive figures, etc. this makes MM's an awesome collectable.
I am relatively small time when it comes to this hobby. My plan is to collect only Star Wars villains at first then maybe branch out to all the other star wars. The one mugg I can't seem to want to buy Plo Koon..... I have no idea why.

I probably won't quit until Hasbro stops making Muggs. I like the style, and they look cool displayed on my shelf. I'll have to get more shelving, but it's nothing to curb my enthusiasm.
People keep saying how the exclusives are hard to get and overpriced, but the PX exclusives are routinely found on ebay for $30 or so, which is just a small markup over the standard $11 price. I will admit that Jigsaw is a tough find, but they JUST hit retail, people. TRU will get more, you can bet your mugg on it.
Which Mugg costs the most on the secondary market? SDCC Iron Man, perhaps? Even if you got into the game late, you can get him for around $50. Can't say the same for chase/ exclusive figures from lines like 3 3/4 Star Wars, LEGO, Minimates, Marvel Legends, etc...
I think this is a fun line to collect. The price range is reasonable, and most/ all figures can be found with just a little bit of effort.
Yeah, it's pretty safe to say that I'm here til the end!

i'm here until they stop making characters i like.
new ones coming out often is exciting and keeps the hunt interesting. it's no fun when you check a target and you're like "oh... i have all of those..."
as far as price goes... the usual 10.99 isn't too hard to swallow. i mean, i wish they were cheaper. it would be awesome if they were like 5.99 instead, but that won't happen. i don't think the price will deter too many of us. i mean, honestly. who among us hasn't spent over 10.99 for a mugg we probably could have eventually found for that price?
plus, i only collect characters i like, so that means mostly marvel and star wars episodes IV-VI. i don't buy doubles and i don't buy repeat characters. i don't need moisture farmer luke standing next to bespin luke standing next to inevitable hoth luke, jedi luke and maybe even training luke or ceremonial luke.
when that is what the lines come down to (all just character repeats *cough mini mates cough* ) i'll stop buying. it's hard for me to believe i've already spent like $230 or $250 on little 6inch figures, but i have and i'm cool with that. so i'll keep collecting for now

as a student its a little harder to fuel this hobby but i've come so far that i spose i dont mind going ahead with more :) i like the price point, its not overly expensive so its still a reasonable hobby to keep up. the last time i thought i needed a hobby i paid 50bucks an hour to learn how to ride a motorbike. that wouldve bought me a lot of muggs!
frankly i pick and choose, i dont have everything, that's just too hard. i start with the ones i want and appeal to me most. and i can't wait to get my hands on a few wickets!

This could be a possibility that all Star War muggs go to target, and all marvel muggs go to trs, that way we can drive safely and calmly to your mugg of choice

As I was reading through this thread, I was just nodding my head in agreement:
"Yup, I hear you."
"Totally agree. That's just CRAZY."
"Holy *&%$%, me too."
I hive-mind with all of you in most aspects, I think. I would have LOVED to collect them all, but it just gets too expensive. I wonder how different it would be if they were priced at a solid $8.99? I think that would mean more collecting of other lines. I am mainly a Marvel guy, but I had to pick up Stormshadow and Snake-Eyes, plus I want Optimus and Megatron when those come out... but I'm gonna have to pass on Duke, Baroness, Bumblebee, Soundwave, etc., etc. It's just too fast, too varied. Don't even get me started about the Star Wars stuff. Talk about crazy. There are so many variations (if you are into those) and the "not-so-recognizable" characters, some I don't even remember and I watched all the movies!
Imagine if the Marvel line came out with Ka-Zar of the Savage Land? I mean, to me it would be cool because I know who that is... but imagine a Mugg collector, who is mainly into Star Wars but is a total completist, they'd look at that and go... HUH?!?
But back on topic, I do think I will get tired of all the hunting one day. But for now, I'm glad I can afford it. If it means eating or getting the new wave of Muggs, then I think the choice is clear.
Eat the Mugg with maple syrup. ;) ;)

call it quits? ha, u must not be a true toy hunter. try collecting transformers...and not just the ones they currently release in stores. now thats a expensive and far reaching universe (currently making its way into the mugg-verse for example) but dont get me wrong im not complaining, i love the hunt and the feeling you get when you get the "rare and/or expensive" collectable. its like it fills the void that much more. i call it.........PLASTIC HAPPINESS :)

I wouldn't say I've called it "Quits," but I have called it "Enough for now," since I got this latest wave. If I'm actually IN a Target and I see a Gammorean Guard or maybe a Wampa (when they both come out), I might pick one up, but I'm done actively searching for Muggs ... for now.
Naturally, since I passed up Teebo TWICE yesterday, my oldest son stated he thought it would cool to get one (after I gave him Commander Cody, for bringing home a great report card). I'm not goin' lookin' for it, though. LOL. ENOUGH, already! heh.

I'm with Joey Muggs on the $8.99 price point. It would be a little more bearable. But, with the news of the 'Target Exclusives' wave having some reissues, and the Indy and Transformer cancelling, it looks like we'll have a little wiggle room. Maybe if they ease up for a month or two, we can all catch our breath. Hopefully Hasbro has some moles on this site and hears what we're saying.

I have now forced myself down to only the Star Wars line. Living in Australia sees me paying way too much and to collect all the lines would see me living on the footpath with a mugg lined cardboard box :-) Mind you i will still probably splurge on the odd other mugg here and there - have to have an optimus :-)

I haven't felt the need to collect every mugg that is created I've only collected the ones I've actually liked, which has helped. For example there is no way in hell I'm going to grab the Phoenix when she comes out. I've also felt the crunch from running out of space to display the muggs. I live in a house with my roommate right now, but hopefully when I get my own and house and create my man cave in the basement I can get a rather large display case or just a crap load of nice shelves.

i thought this hobby was relatively inexpensive and rather easy in relation to my other hobbies (fixing up my car), but that soon took a quick turn. it first started with 8.99 muggs at target and then i had to get SDCC Iron Man which cost me 60 bucks and then i had to get all the exclusives and now its getting to too much with all these new waves and exclusives coming out. i hope i can continue to afford this hobby...

The Star Wars line is too much. The repaints make it worthwhile though. Some people love to cry about repaints and whatnot but we need them to keep our wallets a little heavier and room for new ones. For Marvel I have everyone but the Skrull, never interested me.
I have like 40-50 of them and I can't see me collecting everything anymore.

I'm only going to hunt when I hear that there's new ones out there... I'm a MARVEL completest. I get the SW ones I like and I even considered getting ALL of the SW line but, man that's sooooo much..
Joes give me great flashbacks to good memories as a kid and it's nice to have them sitting on my desk next to me as I type this. I've got them all so far except for Destro and Baroness but if they come out with more of the other Joes I don't like, this will probably be a line-up that I only get if I like them. AND I LIKE THEM ALL SO FAR!! AGGGH!
Transformers, only the ones I like I suppose even though again, I like ALL of them so far... ughh...
I guess I won't stop unless they stop. Marvel, I'll never stop for and if they made DC somehow and by the grace of the almighty Hasbro somehow got licensing down for them I'd go insane.
Marvel is the only line I won't stop collecting, the others are expendable.

I made an agreement with my wife to purchase, now, only Muggs that I have a fondness of in movies, tv, or comics. For instance, I was never a big fan of Thor - so I never picked him up. I do, however, remember sitting in Underoos watching GI-Joe and pretending to be Snake-Eyes, so of course I grabbed him first change I got. I actually don't own a Leia Mugg, but went through hell to find the Punisher, which I read during class. In between my Algebra book. You know you did too.
