I might have to go to this next year. I'm sure it'd be super fun (but sounds like I'd have to sign up for tickets now). The little convention near me I went to back in March was super fun, probably in part because it was small and you were able to talk to your favorite comic book people for a while if you wanted to because there were practically no lines.

Yeah, the key is to buy tickets the year before or having someone buy them for you (if that is even possible). Then, book your hotel early because prices just rise. Then, book the parking as soon as it opens up. Then, book your flight. Then, bring lots of water and snacks and have fun cause it will be a long day. But, you sure do leave a lot of freebies! =)

Are you in LA or Louisiana? You can always get a fairly cheap hotel on the outskirts of San Diego's downtown. You can probably get enough freebies and giveaways and exclusives to have that ticket pay for itself. =)

There's a $50/nite Ramada hotel about 35 miles away. Not sure if you are hotel picky. That would save you a decent amount of money. Then, ~$100 a ticket.

I was this close of not buying this year's ticket, but I did so only cus the damn wait to get in was too long so I had nothing else to do but line up in another line. The joys of SDCC lines. Thank you for asking the question about how to shop at HasbroToyShop.com at Comic Con! Yes, there is a system and not one you want to find out after you arrive! So, here it is…


During preview night, which is Wednesday, you need only come directly to our booth (#3329). We have a queuing system that goes around the booth and the wait can be up to 2.5 hours. At times, if the line exceeds the end of our booth, we do need to cap the line and you will be asked to come back later. This is for safety purposes, and we must follow the guidelines set forth by the fire marshals.


On Thursday-Saturday, you will need to go upstairs in the Sails Pavilion before approaching our booth (although when the doors first open, we do let that first wave of people start the line – but they usually line up outside the convention center in the middle of the night sometime) . We have a desk upstairs at the Sails Pavilion where we hand out tickets beginning at 9 am. The tickets will tell you what time you can enter the line (again, only if it does not exceed the booth capacity). For example, the ticket will say Thursday after 12 noon. That means you can get in line Thursday at 12 noon, or any time thereafter…even the following day or as late as Sunday. One word of caution, though. Items do sell out during the course of one day, can come back into stock the next day or be sold out for the show…This is because we have limited storage space on the floor of the convention. Sometimes we can get into the warehouse and get more off our trailers, other days not, which is why you would need to get in line again the following day if the item you want is not available for the day.

Ah I figured you guys probably already heard. So this will be my first SDCC, does anyone have any advice on getting my hands on these? From what I've read I need to go to the Sails Pavilion before 9am to get a ticket for the Hasbro line. I only have a pass for Friday so I'm hoping they won't be sold out. Do they limit you on how many you can buy?

I think your info is good, there's no limit on how many you can buy as long as they have it instock. They have a daily limit (which is not disclosed) and when they run out they have to get more stock from their trucks which isn't on site from what I understand. I'm not going so if you can pick up an extra set, please let me know.

Based on past years, there is a limit of 4 at Hasbro. They will definitely still have stock on Friday. I would think they would make enough for everyday and spread it evenly. Just get your ticket. It'll list a time that you can get in line. Then, just get in line and buy what you want from Hasbro. They will stamp your badge and you can move on.

Congratz on making the jump to go in the near future...

Here's a look at the last few SDCC's...

2009 (Tix sold out about 6 months out)
2010 (Tix sold out about 2 months out)
2011 (Server crashed twice when they tried to put tix up, and when they got it up in Feb, sold out in hours)
They also resold 1500 4 day passes very recently and used a waiting room. The number reached all the way to 8000 people waiting.
This pretty much gives you a good idea on how crazy this event gets. I'm not sure whether its easier to get super bowl tickets or comic con tickets now.

I'm assuming 2012 will be very tough. There is going to be everyone trying to get tickets at the same time and its not humanly possible. If possible, I HIGHLY recommend someone buy the tickets for you at this years show. They sell next years tickets at the ticket booth and that is the easiest way to get tickets plus you get a crack at going to preview night.

Here's a rough draft of the costs involved:

Airfare ~$300? Not sure about East Coast flights but as soon as you confirm tickets, book ASAP.

Hotel ~$150-200/nite IF you book early. If you book late, you are looking at 300-500/nite. Comic Con also have travel planners which get you a very nice discount so as soon as they open that up, I would suggest contacting them to see what they can do.

SDCC tickets $105 Prices are probably going up just a tad. They raised the price to $137 for reselling the refunded tickets. So, I'd say add a bit more.

Rental Car ~20-25/day You probably don't need a rental car. SDCC has paid for a lot of shuttles from various hotels. There is also the trolley which runs around to most hotels or at least nearby.

Food/Drinks - Really depends on you. Convention Center food is typically mediocre at best and runs you the normally 3 times inflated prices. Luckily, there are tons of restaurants around so you have lots of choices. So, prices is really dependant on how you like to eat.

Spending Money - Once again, depneds on you. There is so much stuff to see and buy, its pretty ridiculous. There are also tons of panels to see so there is more than enough to do there.

For flights, 5 day stay at a hotel, tickets, and food, roughly around ~$2000 for 2 people.

For this year, it was $105 for 4 day passes and $37 for single day passes Thur,Fri,Sat and $25 for Sunday.

They will sell the 4 day 2012 passes at Comic Con this year. Nobody knows the prices yet until they start selling it at the convention. Then, they'll make a formal announcement on their Facebook/Twitter announcing when it will go on sale online. Typically, they do it somewhere around November I think.

They announce all the panels about 2 weeks prior but news on a ton of blogs break the news earlier. Planning early is the key. But, like I said, if you know someone going to Comic Con this year, best thing to do is get that person to buy your tickets at the show.

If you are referring to Muggs, they should be available to at least Saturday. I've never seen them sell out unless they are making a smaller quantity. The only ones that sold out fast was the '08 iron man and Peter Parker. Everything else lasted to at least Sunday.

You may want to go earlier to Mattel booth. The good ones always sell out by Friday/Saturday. All those exclusives look like they have potential to sell out. First one to go would probably be the Star Wars 14 and GI Joe exclusives. Best way to check is go on eBay and see the completed auctions. If you see activity and people paying way more than it costs, you know its going to be a good one.

They were selling the passes for next year at my hotel.... the Hyatt.... thursday they sold all 8,000 they had for the day by 3pm. They were only selling with preview night i believe and were going to do 8,000 each day. At 3pm thursday there were about 50 people in line for friday tickets that were going on sale at 8am just crazy

I was on HTS since 5am yesterday morning waiting to get the Muggs and GI Joe stuff I wanted. It took so long for me to get to checkout (literally until 11:30 am) due to their craptacular servers that I missed all of the GI Joe stuff I was after, particularly the Starscream Skystriker. Got the Muggs though so that's something right? I'm just hoping they have some protection for Giant Man's head so it doesn't get all messed up during shipping.

Last year, there were reports of people receiving their muggs packaged by simply being thrown into an oversize box with no packing material whatsoever.

Dont know if anyone went to the hasbro panel but they did say mighty muggs would live on most likely in small releases and as exclusives most likely. Is one or two muggs a year okay? I know i was happy too hear that.

works for me, since I have moved on from muggs, a few a year is cool, wont break the bank on multiple collections. Plus is that the muggs that do get realesed would hopefully be "special" since they would be limited. like the spidey with mask, wolverine with claws, or metallic Iron Man
