Marvel Heroes Buildable Figures

So, nothing panned out from this thread (http://mightymuggsforum.com/showthread.php?t=12867) so I'm starting a new one.

I was wondering about these guys after seeing TO's custom. They come in bulk in a pack of 250, which means roughly 41 total sets. A set includes all 6--Thing, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America & Iron Man. They're perfect for those of you who display your Muggs in box. Just put them in front of the bigger box! Be like f4LL3n (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a121/xf4LL3n/MMF/0529001756.jpg)!

I was wanting to do a group buy. Shipping (assuming they weigh about one pound) from me to the coasts (most expensive destination) would be $4.90 for parcel post. This place sells the 250 piece bulk set for $99.95 after shipping (http://www.gumball.com/marvel-heroes-2-inch-self-vending-buildable-figures.aspx). They're about .40 each so $2.40 per set before shipping. So to break about even, it'd be $7.30 after shipping assuming all 41 sets are sold. (I don't think they can be shipped in a padded envelope b/c it'd be more than 3/4" thick so package prices would apply, hence the slightly high shipping.)

If there's still people interested, let me know and I can start taking names and then order some for everybody & ship and mail them. It would take pretty close to the full 41 sets being sold for me to buy them. Obviously shipping will be based on how many sets you buy.

if where i usually get them doesnt have them i would be interested ...you cant put them in a bubble envelope because they arent very strong and if someone were to put something heavy on it they might crack ...walmart sells little 5"5"5" boxes (size might be different) but it would fit all 6 to ship them ...and yeah to break just under even you would have to sell all 41 sets ..i dont know if youd get 41 people but you may get like 25

Yeah, I started this new thread so just us three(?) so far. If I get enough interest, I'll go ahead and get them and send them out.

And TO, I think the post office has boxes for VHS tapes for free that might work (at least that's what I was planning on using at the moment--I might have to use my work's giftcards to Officemax and get some bigger boxes for free).

Yeah, I was thinking I could just order a bunch of post office shoe box size boxes for free and cut them down. So free supplies (which keeps costs low) and smaller boxes to keep the weight down.

Sorry if I break anyone's bubble. I just wanted to shoot off a warning in case no one knows. But, I know Fugitive Toys carried these at Wonder-con so I have a slight inside knowledge about these. There are indeed 250 pieces, HOWEVER, they are not distributed evenly. The rarest one is Thor and there's only maybe 10-12 of them. So, you'll maybe have 10-12 complete sets. Unless you plan on doing a lot to customs on these or love a certain character, I would definitely recommend getting it from that eBay auction in the previous thread.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but there's something you guys need to know before you order a case.

I was really excited to get some of these when I first saw them. I was going to order a set off eBay but before I did, my brother found them locally. But, he bought 8 of them at a dollar a piece from the vending machine and only 3 of them had bodies inside. So, I figured that probably the heads just came apart and were lost in the machine. A few days later, I went to the machine and bought 3...none had bodies, and each had a plastic strip around them that would make it very difficult to come open in the machine.

About a week later, I found them in another town so I spent another 3 dollar....3 heads, 0 bodies.

So, I did some research and found out that the bodies are considered a bonus and in a box of 250, roughly only 60 will include bodies. I don't know how reliable that info was/is, but it definetly supports that between my brother and I purchasing 14 of them and only 3 had bodies. :(

hmm ...i spent 10 dollars on these things at a machine trying to get a cap or thor and all of them had bodies ...i wonder if they made a mistake?

and yeah i think what nicky says is true because there was only like 3 thor in a machine full of these when i was buying them ...most in the machine were spidey and IM

Actually, I have an another email out to the people who sell them about distribution of characters. I forgot to ask in my initial email. Yesterday they initially emailed me back within about 30 minutes of my email. I think I just sent my follow up email after they closed (around 5:30 last night) so I should hear back on this today.

Anyways, I would like to think I covered all bases in my emails with the company about them before I posted, but yeah, I forgot to ask about distribution until maybe 10 minutes after I created the thread. Yes, you are correct. There are two seperate kinds. Ones with a body and ones without. I'm guessing the guy who loaded the machine decided to be a little cheap and mix them in because I think the bodyless ones are a little cheaper.

I'd like 2 sets.

Shipping. Are these things heavy? If you can keep the packages under 13oz you should be able to ship them 1st class for much less than 4.90.
Boxes. If there is a card collectors store near you the small cardboard boxes might work. They cost .25 (usually). Sams club sells padded envelopes 25 of them for under 10 bucks.

I spoke to the person who did the ordering for Fugitive. He stated that his supplier does not have stock till middle/late August. So, you may want to check if gumballs has stock on hand or whether it will be sent at a future date. Most of the time, all these retailers gets the supply at the same time.

Also, out of 6 cases that they previously ordered, he never received more than 12 Thors in any of the cases. This was cases ordered in a span dating back to early this year. It may be different for this new shipment but I just wanted to give you some data history.

Although, you get it cheaper a little bit, after shipping, you may only be saving a couple of dollars. Time/Supply/Ink/Tracking etc etc can make costs go more than necessary. The person who receives it would also have to do all the work and I would hope that you value your time over a couple of dollars. And, if the package gets lost, that would really be a shame as someone would lose out.

Honestly, I would just get it from the people selling on eBay if its 10 bucks or so.

I am not telling you not to order. I just wanted to give you some data history and maybe shed some light on how much trouble this could be.

This is pretty much the same thinking I use for Muggs. If someone sells for a few bucks more, I don't mind as it pays for their time and trouble.

@littlenicky - honestly, some weekends I sit around and watch some movies. I can easily pack up some boxes during that time. So yeah, if I can help people get a cool product without eating into my schedule, I don't mind. And according to gumballs, they won't get stock in for a couple weeks. I figure it will take some time to get enough people on the list so waiting a couple weeks for the product to come in will be ok.

@ingencorp - from my emails with the manufacturer, they ship "motivator sets" that are empty heads and a mixture of heads with bodies. They said that gumballs then distributes them as sets of heads only and sets of heads + bodies. So I think what you get depends on where you get it from. Personally, I think "motivator sets" of half and half are complete utter horse sh*t.

Basically the breakdown is this.

For every 1 Thor you'll get 2 Captain America & 2 Wolverine and then you'll get 5 each of the Spider-Man, Hulk, and Iron Man. It's a real pain when trying to complete sets.

I recommend that you go back soon. I was going to order a case to have at conventions, something for the kids. Turns out that they have completely sold out and this set is now retired. What I have left (and that isn't much) is all I have. The good news is that there should be another set of new characters by end of summer. With all the conventions before that though, I'm afraid I won't last out.
