Posse up anyone?
I am not a big Western fan in any way, but the more I read the previews for this game, the more interested I am.
Multiplayer looks pretty tempting.

I dislike open world games but this one looks amazing. I too was not looking forward to it but the more I heard about it the more it made me wanna get it. It's been preordered and should get to me on launch day.
It's gonna be tough choosing which to play first between that and Alan Wake.

Let me know what you think of Red Dead, I don't think I'll buy it at the initial street price. :derrr: That money could go to a custom Mugg!
I did an online survey for Alan Wake, at least 2 years ago, back then it didn't seem too interesting. I'm a sucker for online play, especially co-op. So I'm not sure about Alan.

It looks like a GTA in the wild west. Which is something I am very interested in.

Is this game a sequel of another game? Plus, do i have to know any backstory before I play Red Dead Redemption?

I doubt you would need to know the backstory of the first game. It sold decently well but I think they know that most people will not have played the first.

Its a totally different character and thus story, so no, you dont need the backstory to enjoy it fully

amazon has a pretty decent deal if you preorder from them::
Pre-order your copy of Red Dead Redemption and get a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card. Additionally you'll receive access to an Amazon exclusive in-game golden guns weapon pack, which let you gain fame faster (fame gains you access to in-game side missions).
although the fine print states
Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time.

Those amazon 10 or 20 dollar gift card offers are so awesome. Not only do you get probably the cheapest price for any game from amazon, you don't have to pay taxes, or shipping (super saver shipping) and you get 10 or 20 bucks off of a game plus any other preorder exclusive available (like the fame/golden guns in Red Dead). It's sooooo awesome. Ive been linking games with these types of offers left and right. Both Red Dead and Alan Wake have a gift card offer so my next game (probably Transformers: War for Cybertron) will be 30 bucks off. Plus I've used the 10 from preordering Super Street Fighter to preorder Mod Nation Racers which also has a 10 buck gift card. It's like riding a gravy train of savings.

(probably Transformers: War for Cybertron)
+1 for this reference, first time I have heard of this game. Transformers 2 was pretty cool, the multiplayer was fun. This is a must have game in my book.

This is the sequel to Red Dead Revolver which was released in 2004 for PS2 and Xbox. I've played through the entire game when it was released, but I can honestly say that I've already forgotten the story. :D

Paid in full today and will be lining up at midnight on monday.
This is NOT a sequel, meaning the story line of the first does not relate to this one. It's the second red dead game, the devs have dubbed it a "spiritual sequel", but it terms of narrative no need to have played the first one.

I don't Rockstar can go wrong, ever.

I'm hearing a lot of positive reviews on Red Dead Redemption. I'm sure I'll buy the game but I made a rule to always rent 1st (GameFly).
But I'm pretty sure I might buy it.

LOTS and LOTS of killing... bringing it back to the old western days! Seems addicting so far! Might even be game of the year worthy based on some reviews...
I LOVE this game so far. I watched my friend let a bull out of it's pen, then get charged and trampled by it trying to get it back in. All the while I was lmao. Anyone want to play, just add me on Live. GT is the same as my name here.

Anyone get their horse eating by the wolves? hah
Are you guys trying to be the bad guy and kill everyone and everything? Or are you going the nice route and just doing all the missions?

Damn you people! So tempting... I'm taking 2 intensive summer courses and was planning to avoid buying this game for fear of distraction, but I ended up getting it... I'm probably going to have to make my girlfriend hide my Xbox controllers from me for the next 6 weeks until classes are done.

Yes, you can get a bunch of your friends and form a posse.
If you enjoy playing GTA, then you'll definitely like this. It's exactly like the GTA concept except its back in the Wild Wild West days.

For those that have the game, is it more fun being good or bad?
I played Fable II and didn't get a chance to experiment much with the good vs bad character development aspect.

Funny true story: So I just rented Red Dead Redemption from GameFly. I was traveling on my horse and saw two guys shooting at a guy running for his life.
I assume the two people shooting were bandits and I shoot at them using "Dead Eye." I then saw my "Honor" sink by 5 points or so and now realize that they were lawmen.
I get off my horse and the guy running away stops and says, "Thanks partner. Those (lawmen?) almost got me."
I got angry that I made this mistake and think to myself ("g*dammit) and take out my pistol and start shooting at the guy who now turns around and starts running away from me. I miss the first couple of shots and then I took out my shotgun and laid him out with two headshots.
Besides that incident, this game is amazing!

Being bad can be a hassle. US Marshals chasing you, paying bounties, losing Honor. Never committed crimes unless it was mission related.

Alright, maybe I am just in my own little world here.
I rented this game about a week ago.
I beat it in like four days.
After, I beat it I went to a chinese restaraunt I go to a lot, because one of the waiters is into stuff like this.
So, we were talking, and eventually I asked him if he ever completed a particular mission.
In the game I rented, I had to take the doctor from MacFarlane's Ranch, past Hennigan's Stead, and assassinate him, because he was selling illegal drugs.
When my friend said he had never heard of this, I thought to myself...hmmm.
So, did any of you guys have to do this mission?

Yeah there's "Fame" and "Honor." The more good deeds you do the more of Fame and/or Honor you get. The bigger the deed, the higher the points.
I accidently messed up a mission and lost a good amount of honor.

Anyone know where exactly I can find the flowers for that old man? Do I have to buy a type of map to help me find the flowers he want?
This game is really fun and I got the hang of saving people more often instead of being overly cautious while I'm aiming.

lol, this game is hilarious. I was riding my horse until someone ask for help. I recognize this incident where the guy asks for help then takes your horse. He ran past me and took my horse but I quickly lasso him and remembered Kire's recommendation of tying someone onto the railroad tracks.
I left him there and waited for a good 5 minutes but the train didn't come so I united him and let him run away for a good 5 seconds and lassoed him while riding my horse.
I let him go but he died from the injuries.

You can simply whistle your horse to buck that guy off too.
I need to Gold two more co-op missions to get 1100/1100. They're frustrating though

Supposedly there is a Werewolf in the game. It's a tiny Easter Egg. You can look it up. However, I think it's a glitch. The game makes all of there characters be formed by multiple limbs. Sometimes the limbs can glitch making human dogs and human cougars. I think the Werewolf is a Boar with wolf legs.
