Im just starting to collect and have gotten my first couple of Muggs. Im torn wether or not to keep them in or out of the box. What are the benefits of keeping them in the box as taking them out to display?

buy 2 of each so you can take 1 out and have 1 in the box =]

It's really whatever you want. I collect things for me, not because of what they can potentially cost in the future, however; I still don't take them out of the box. I just prefer the "new" look, I guess?

Most collectors will keep them in the box as not to depreciate their value. If you aren't going for collector mode, or seeing how much they will be worth some day in the box; then which way gives you more pleasure?

In or out?

As much as I love the boxes, they just take up too much damn space! Besides Muggs look way cooler on the shelf out of their boxes. So, I say take 'em out! Mugg collecting is a lot more fun that way (at least for me).

I mean come on...there are so many wolverines in the world, it really isn't going to matter if you take 'em out of the box. Sure, if you get two, then save one if you have the room.

Free 'em!

Although, keep the boxes.
You can always put them back in and display them in boxes..

i think they are cool either way.. when i first starting collecting muggs (i had 9 at the time), i unboxed them. but then i decided i wanted them boxed. i mean, they come in such neat boxes. so, i decided to keep them all boxed. and that meant buying all 9 over again.
i never thought my collection was going to get so big! and i never thought mighty muggs were going to catch on so much! im sure glad they did.
if its a mugg i really like, i buy two of them. i keep them all boxed, but if i happen to get a second one, i open it :) of course, that can get very expensive.
good luck making your decision!

btw: if you do open them, cut the tape from the bottom! do not open them from the top if you plan on saving the boxes!
i made that mistake when i first starting collecting. dumb huh?

i went to a anime shop one day and i wanted a spider-man mugg there were 2 boxes. one look good but the other one look like it had been through some rough times.the lady handed me the beat up box. i look at her and said can i get the one that looks nice. she said i was one of "those" people (i think she thought i had ocd or something). she said that had to "liberate" my toys. i dont have problem taking it out it out of the box. i really thought i was overpaying for it too. i just wanted a nice box. so i got it!

I started opening them from the start.
They def. are a sight to see outta the box.

My preferred method of removing from the box is cutting the tape under, the bottom is designed to be opened and resealed at a later time.

I personally keep most of my Muggs in their boxes up to this point. I have a bookcase that they are displayed in with each of them laying down so that you can see the top of the box. I have a Vader v1, The Emperor, Iron Man v1 and Captain America on top of the top boxes out of package, but that's all I've taken out up to this point. I'm wanting to do a tiered, staircase sort of display with all of them out and on top of their boxes in the future, so I've mainly kept them in the boxes to preserve their stands for the future. I'm going to try and make a custom pretty soon, so I figure if that goes well I might as well have everything else out of the boxes to display with them anyway. Plus, as someone already said, the boxes do take up an awful lot of space compared to out of the package. Don't really see that there is one right side of the argument, though. It is good to be open to taking them out and not being OCD about the boxes I think, though. I used to be like that about other figures, but it was a relief to break from that and liberate my figures.

Thanks for all of the replies. Right now my collection stands at 6 (Yoda, General Grevious, Jango Fett, Thing, Black SpiderMan,and Red SpiderMan) and they havent left the box yet. I most likely will take them out of the box. They just look so cool and need to be released!

I know right? Their just too playful looking to simply look at in their boxes! But their boxes are still cool.

I have all of mine standing on top of their boxes with all but a scant few having been opened from the bottom so as to allow me to put them back in when it's time to move them.

Personally, I prefer the look of most toys when they're in the box, since all the pieces are always there, but for some reason I put all of my Muggs out on Display.

The single Mugg I have is still in the box, but it's mainly because I don't have a nice place to display an opened Mugg at this point in time. That being said, the boxes do look really nice, very well designed in my opinion.

Hey,

i'm just wondering,

Do you guys (and maybe girls:P) keep all your Muggs in their boxes or do you put them on a shelve or on our desk or something.

I've got all mine on shelves, only the Exclusive ones are in their boxes. :)

Let me know! :D

Boxed and on a nice white shelf. Look neat and tidy in a box and the boxes look to good to open, only opened my CP30 out of the box out of the 10 muggs i got so far, just waiting on a Jigsaw and Punisher to arrive from the US so my display will look so cool.

I love muggs. I open them and shelf them. the way I look at it is this. In 5 years will I be able to sell the muggs for a profit that would motivate me enough to sell them......probably not. I would probably just have a bunch of dusty boxes that take up more room that they do opened. they would get boxed up and put in the basement with most of my diecast NASCAR collectibles that are likley worth about the same as when I bought them.

uhu i agree with opening them, but i keep my exclusives closed :D
i don't want to sell them in the future to, i think they look nice in every home :)

and i'm sorry for the dubble tread!

Let's make it another tread then, how about the exclusive muggs, in or out lol
all my normals are out, exclusives in but i'm thinking about letting them free to cause i don't want to sell them in the future
and still i got all the boxes lined up so i keep them to:)

Do you like to open your muggs or would you rather keep them in the box? or are you like me and do both (kind of) actually i open them but i do keep the boxes. The boxes are just as awesome as the muggs i believe and some of the boxes are unique and are worth keeping (punisher and destro boxes ). what say you?

I started freeing my Muggs, but when I've just got my 4th and have decided to keep them in their boxes from now on. Either way they still look 100% awesome.

I think the Muggs look awesome both ways, I keep the majority of my collection in the box, but I have started buying a lot of the clearanced Muggs to take out of the box! I just recently got a Mola Ram for $3 @ Wal-Mart and he's too cool w/ his flaming heart lol Yesterday I got two blank white muggs @ UO to open @ $4.99 each! The lower price does make it easier to open them!

I’m not averse to taking my toys out of their packages, but the Mugg boxes are too damn cool to open. I have freed some duplicates from their boxes and put them on display. They look really great this way to. Ideally, I’d like to have two of each, one in and one out, but this is too pricey for me now.

I like keeping them in the box for some reason. But I've seen a lot of cool pictures where people pose their Muggs in really interesting ways.
