I have never been to a game outdoors, so Target Field was a very new experience for me. Pictured you will see a few shots of the "Minnie and Paul" lighted logo sign in centerfield, picture of the outside, generic shots of the seats, the giant scoreboard, the Budweiser Roof Deck, and T.C. the bear! I went to the Twins vs. Indians April 20th, 2010
The lighted logo sign has instantly become an iconic part of the stadium. It looks really cool at night and the lights flash or move during great plays, homeruns, and finally when the Twins win (which happens often). The lights make it appear as if the two are shaking hands.
The scoreboard is HUGE. It is the 4th largest in baseball, and in HD. It was crystal clear. Joe Mauer looked real...and 101 ft. tall.
The Budweiser roof deck looks cool. I hear the view from it is amazing. They have some reserved seating otherwise there are also standing room only tickets. Seems like the perfect way to hang out and watch a game.
The game itself: Twins won 5-1. Not much else NEEDS to be said, I love watching a win. However, the weather this day was pristine. Literally, perfect. Not perfect for Minnesota, or perfect if you bundle up. It was T-shirt weather, high 60s at first pitch, with the most subtle of breezes, like really subtle. Just perfect, with not a cloud it sight. No homeruns so that was a bummer but some fireworks at the end when we won. Remember, no fireworks in the Metrodome so I thoroughly enjoyed that.
Target Field isn't without its problems though, in my opinion:
-The concourse is twice as wide as the Metrodome, but it was way overcrowded! I know it was a capacity crowd but I have been to sellouts in the Metrodome and it wasn't that cramped. I think the length of the concourse is much less...just dumb that they brag about it being "twice as wide."
-Lack of gates. Metrodome had a dozen or so, whereas this has 5-6
-Opened them only 1 1/2 hrs. before the game. Why? It's a new stadium, people want to check it out.
-Seats are cramped. I understand they want to fit more people in, but was promised early in development that seats would be more spacious.
Overall though, baseball outdoors was a wonderful experience. The Twins and their fans deserved this. Less than a decade ago, the Twins were almost contracted out of the MLB! Now look where they are!!
