I love the work that people are doing creating video game characters so I figure that this is a great place to see them and maybe even pick up tips but considering how artistically inept I am I don't hold out a lot of hope.

Welcome to the site. I'd suggest finding a Hulk mugg and trying to just make another Hulk with him at first. Thats what I plan to do, since I too am artistically inept.

This is the best advice. Start small, then work your way up

Welcome to the site. Your best bet is to check out the customs for ideas, and practice painting to get the mechanics for a smooth paint job down. Feel free to ask for advice too!
