Here is my first attempt at a custom. I know its not the best (especially the face) but overall I'm happy with it and plan on improving and honing my abilities. I was going for Connery Bond but I feel it came out more like Roger Moore Bond. Oh well. I'm open to feedback from you guys. Thanks.
UPDATE: 20 Dec
Here's an update: with finals finally done I had an update to redo the face on Bond. I know its still not the best, but I've now gotten the feel for what I can and can't do with brushes. I think I'm going to leave it like this. This way I'll be able to look back and see how I started off. I think my next custom attempt will be Namor, King of Atlantis, although the winged feet will be an issue. Any one have any ideas?

oh yeah I also think a hasbro james bond mugg line would be sweet - have all the different bond actors, dr. no, oddjob, q, jaws, goldfinger, scaramanga, nick-nack, felix leiter, blofeld, zorin, etc.

Wow!! James Bond was such a good idea!!(Although I am partial to Daniel Craig bond XD)...it looks really good though, and especially for a first time!
If you want to make it even better, I have two suggestions. First off, use tape to mark off the parts that you want to have a straight edge (like his sleeves). That will help give a nice crisp line. It's hard to keep a paintbrush steady. Second, try making the face look more realistic (like the Dr. Jones mugg from Indiana Jones), either with shadows, or more defined facial features (wrinkle, nose shape, etc)...that was it has more of a roger moore feel - although you did capture his tiny eyes :D
But again, that's awesome. I'm always jealous that I didn't think of things like that first!

thanks erin - i tried to use tape on the sleeves (the brand the guy in the art store sold me!) and it barely stuck so it was hard to do but i definitely realize what went wrong. i just saw your post on my other thread about straight lines so im going to keep an eye out for that tape. with the face - i've got a lot of work to do in order to get my faces looking good. i should have planned it out more but i was too excited to start painting and kind of rushed it. next time i should do better (or just make a mugg with a mask lol)

The face looks good!- his expression still says "Bond...James Bond"....
And a good tip to remember while painting with tape is to always paint away from the tape (if that makes sense :P)...say the tape is at the sleeve cuff, you don't want to bring your brushstroke down from the shoulder and then over the tape, because that pulls on the tape and can cause paint to get under it and mess up your lines (I do it a lot >_<). So instead, start with your brush on the tape itself, and then paint up/down away from the tape.

Welcome! I find customizing to be a lot of errors followed by a few final successes towards the end :D
