What's with all the smashed boxes?!?

I just got back from Wal-Mart and they were fully stocked with Muggs, but just about every single box was smashed!

We're talking smashed in corners, bent edges and creases in the box. Somebody had even squirted silly string over the tops of all the Muggs in the Indiana Jones section! Sure it comes off easy, but it leaves a oil stain on the box.

Although I was there to just browse, it would have been very frustrating if I was looking to purchase (especially if there was a hard-to-find one there). Has anybody else been frustrated like this or has had similar problems?

sometimes I have no idea what people do to these boxes. I saw a captain america whose box was so Beat up it was aweful. I really wish I got a picture. It looked like it was the ball in a game of rugby.

I worked at walmart as a stocker for about half a year. Their merchandise comes in completely full trucks usually with some pallets falling on top of each other. Also, little kids + toys = raped toys

I saw a Hulk at my Wal-Mart that had the entire front image ripped off as well as half the top. It was pretty ridiculous.

I went to wal-mart yesterday to pick my Yoda, and I saw a Han Solo (which I am missing) but the top was open and completely messed up

I saw a wolverine box, it was practicaly open, and the corners were zig-zag, it was in bad bad, bad condition! I wanted to yell, EVER HEARD OF SHIPPING AND HANDLING?!?!?!?!?!so, i settled for a Ghost Rider.:D

LOL! Yea wtf is up with the smashed boxes?! Every store I go to that has muggs, has at least ONE box that is smashed like someone sat on it or kicked it around a few times. OMFG, I ordered an original Iron Man from the walmart website and had to pay for shipping... he came in a freaking padded bag!! Wtf is that?!!? lol I had to return him... oh well. When I ordered Henry Jones via site to store he came in a big box... why o why did they send my Iron Man in a bag. :(

The super Wal-Mart near me seems to have beat up boxes for most of the Muggs they carry, in fact there was a Lando with with neon green chewing gum stuck to the eyes on the top of the box one day. Target's boxes in comparaison are pristine.

I agree totally. It's what I call the 'Ace Ventura UPS Guy' treatment. Maybe it's just me, but I can't find a Revan and Maul 2 with a decent box. I own 3 of each, and each one has flaws. And I've bought all 6 at Targets. I was in a K-mart the other night, and someone had splashed soda (looked like punch to me!) all over the Muggs. 2 Hulks, a Wolverine, a Torch, an Iron Man, and a Surfer ruined. When I picked up the Surfer, the bottom of the box ripped because it was stuck to the shelf. And they wonder why they tanked.

I don't know about Walmart, but most stores give a discount for damaged products.

Like the product has to be damaged or the box? Cause if the toy is fine but the box is beat to hell, why would they give you a discount? You'd just gonna get rid of the box anyway. Or at least, that's what they'd think.

Even if it's just the box damaged most stores give a discount. I imagine if you explain to them that you collect them because of the boxes then they would give a discount for that.

Target gives 10% just for asking due to packaging. Sometimes, they give 20% but need a manager's approval.

I recently saw a Galactus opened too at TRU. It wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that there was no plastic packaging in the box. It was just a loose figure inside. Kind of sad.
